How to Develop Your Intuition
What is intuition?
Your intuition, sometimes referred to as your inner guidance, is a mechanism of inner or instinctive knowing which neither requires, nor employs logical thought processes.
It is an alternative source of knowledge, level of awareness, or as some refer to it, an inner voice. We all possess this mechanism to varying degrees, as well as the capacity to develop it further.
The Moment You’ve Been Waiting For
Our lives are spent building up to more important moments, later. The moments when we’ll be happy.
But when those moments come, we’re not happier. In fact, we’re already looking ahead to the next big moments: an upcoming trip, a big project being completed, meeting up with friends, getting that great thing you ordered online, finding your next favorite book, meal, drink, experience.
What if that wonderful moment we’ve been waiting for is this one, right now?
What if this very moment is the most important moment of our lives?
The Antidote to Self-Criticism & Resentment
There are two poisons that have hurt me so much over the years:
Self-criticism — I have so often been critical of myself, harsh on myself, about all my little failures, that this harshness has become one of the biggest things holding me back.
Resentment – I’ve increasingly become aware of how I have a mental pattern of resentment that hurts my relationships, especially with my loved ones. They don’t behave the way I want, so I notice myself feeling resentful that they couldn’t do things differently.
Letting Go of the Past
We are constantly struggling with the past, in so many ways:
Mistakes we’ve made that we regret or that make us feel bad about ourselves
Anger about something someone did to us
Frustration about how things have progressed up until now
A wish that things turned out differently
Stories about what happened that make us sad, depressed, angry, or hurt
An argument that we had that keeps spinning around in our heads
Something someone just did (a minute ago) that we’re still stuck on
What if we could just let go of things have happened, and be present with the unfolding moment instead?
Fulfillment From Within
I have a friend who is lonely, who has such a good heart and desperately wants to find a partner who appreciates that goodness, to share a life with.
We have all felt this, I’m guessing: this desire for a deep connection, this hope that another person will just get us and want an intimate relationship with us, the idea that if we could just find this person and merge with them, we’d be fulfilled.
I Choose the Path of Fearlessness
The more I work with people who are struggling with habits or life problems, the more I see how fears are holding us back.
Fears stop us from building healthy and productive habits. Fears cause us to procrastinate, keep us from finding work that is meaningful (or doing that work if we’ve found it).
A Practice For Daily Stress and Overwhelm
I have an overwhelming amount on my mind today, and with that feeling of being overwhelmed, my stress levels have gone up significantly.
This is a wonderful opportunity to practice being present.
We all experience stress, we all get overwhelmed, and we can drown in it and let it rule our lives … or we can practice with it. Learn from it.
So here’s what I’m doing today to deal with my stress:
